What Final Fantasy VII Means to Me

WARNING*****SPOILERS TO FOLLOW IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED FINAL FANTASY VII**********

This is something that I have been thinking about writing for a long time. I had never felt such a profound personal connection to a video game until I played Final Fantasy VII. It may seem odd, but this game came into my life at just the right time. At a time when I felt lost and afraid.

I was driven to play the original Final Fantasy VII during my senior year of high school after seeing the reveal trailer for the remake at Square Enix’s E3 press conference several months before. I was very excited by this news and my interest in the Final Fantasy series was rejuvenated. I had first discovered the story and characters of Final Fantasy VII through the Kingdom Hearts games many years ago. I had also already seen the spinoff film, Advent Children, and the spinoff game, Dirge of Cerberus. Before I knew the negative impact spoilers would have on the experience of actually playing the game, I foolishly looked up the plot on Final Fantasy Wikia. So I already knew about the more “iconic” scenes in the game.

Why Halo has Lost it’s Way

SPOILER WARNING IF YOU HAVEN’T PLAYED THE HALO GAMES OR READ THE NOVELS

On June 6th, 2011, the trailer for Halo 4 was revealed at E3. This came as a surprise to millions of Halo fans worldwide, who were uncertain if they would ever see this game come to light. After the release of the Halo spinoff game, Halo: Reach, Bungie announced that it would no longer be producing Halo games and would be moving on to new projects. Then, out of the blue, a new studio emerged to take on the mantle of producing the next generation of Halo games. This studio was called 343 Industries, comprised of former Bungie employees as well as new ones. The game would be released a year and a half later.

I, as a life-long Halo fan since the age of seven and who had played all of the games up to this point, was ecstatic to hear that this game was actually coming out and that Master Chief’s story would continue after he and his famous A.I. companion, Cortana, were left drifting towards a mysterious Forerunner planet at the end of Halo 3. I was also thrilled to hear the accompanying announcement that Halo’s expanded universe material would be continued as well. We would see the return of characters such as Master Chief’s Spartan teammates; the mind behind the Spartan program, Dr. Catherine Halsey; Senior Chief Petty Officer Franklin Mendez and many other characters introduced in the original Halo novels. The task of continuing this part of the canon fell to Karen Traviss, a New York Times Bestselling author who previously wrote novels for the Star Wars and Gears of War franchises. We were also going to be getting a new series of novels focusing on the Forerunners and expanding on the origins of the Flood and the creation of the Halo Rings, written by legendary science fiction writer, Greg Bear. All of this was incredibly exciting news to hear.

Eight Things That Need to be included in the Final Fantasy VII Remake

The Final Fantasy VII Remake is upon us, or at least it will be soon (hopefully). Aside from a quick gameplay trailer that was released in December of 2015 and a few screenshots here and there, Square Enix have largely kept news about their major project behind closed doors. Hopefully we will get some sort of look at the game this Spring during some of the big gaming press conferences at E3 and Gamescon. Personally, I am fine with them taking as much time as they need in order to make this game incredible. In the meantime however, I do hope that they’re taking what the fans want from this game into consideration while in the development process.

So I thought I’d let them know exactly what I want to see from the game. Here are eight things (in no particular order) that need to be included in the Final Fantasy VII Remake. Continue reading

Hello world!

Hi everyone,

Welcome to my blog. Here I will be sharing my thoughts on basically every fictional entertainment franchise I’m interested in, whether they take the form of movies, video games, novels, or comics, I’ll be writing about it here.

I will also be using this site as a means to showcase some of my own fiction writing as well. I am an aspiring screenwriter and novelist and am currently working on my first short story. From time to time, I may post some excerpts from my work to this blog for all to see. I may even post the entire story here when I finish before I even submit it to a publisher.

Anyway, I hope you all enjoy my content.

Cheers!
